Welcome to KIBI Library & Publications
A place for study and contemplation, preservation and spreading of authentic Buddhadharma
“Education is invaluable, because it helps us to cultivate the innate pure qualities that we all possess as human beings. The emphasis and
direction of education should be to help develop consciousness, and
support people in nurturing the innate values of wisdom and compassion that we all possess, for the benefit of society.”
The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje
Our Vision
The Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI) is an academic institution dedicated to study, reflection, and meditation. For over 30 years, it has independently offered courses in Buddhism as well as the Tibetan and Sanskrit languages. Since 2012, KIBI has operated under the auspices of the educational and cultural branch of the Karmapa International Buddhist Society (KIBS).
Founded by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa with the aim of developing a Buddhist education centre for a worldwide audience, the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI), now under the management of the KIBS, is dedicated to fulfilling these objectives as set out in its earliest stages.

The KIBI library is a central element of the Institute, housing a comprehensive collection of books and magazines covering all fields of Buddhist knowledge, as well as related subjects such as language and art. The library also provides access to relevant research tools and databases through e-media resources.
The Tibetan section holds a true treasure: two complete editions of the Kangyur (Buddha's words) and Tengyur (commentaries). One is a set of the Derge edition in traditional pecha (loose-leaf) format, originally brought to KIBI by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. The second is the Pedurma edition (dpe bsdur ma) from 2001, presented in a modern book format.
Under the wing of the library, KIBI commissioned its own publication unit in early 2020. The unit's aim is to "increase the understanding of and engagement with Buddhism and meditation through a publishing programme that fosters enquiry, research, discussion, translation, participation and enjoyment of learning and public access". With this foundational vision in mind, the publication unit is designed to develop into a central component of KIBI’s educational branch by publishing practice texts, treatises, commentaries, and similar works in both Tibetan and English languages. Though still in its initial stages, we will keep the public updated on developments and new releases through our website and the KLP social media.
The overarching vision of the entire Library & Publications unit is to serve in preserving and sharing authentic Buddha Dharma—particularly the Karma Kamtsang teachings—both immediately and over the long term, through a variety of means.
