In order to meet the demands of a technology-based society and its various needs, we are currently in the process of modernizing our facilities. The institute’s requirements for its library to offer various study programs shall be met, while at the same time it will remain a place where general Dharma students may develop their innate wisdom.

What We Have

Our research library provides a large variety of general Dharma books and academic studies in several languages, primarily English, Tibetan, Chinese, and Sanskrit. A decent number of books on different subjects is also available in other languages, including French, Russian, Spanish, Polish, and Hungarian. Here is an overview of the material available in our collection:

  • Numerous philosophical works (e.g. the Five Treatises of Maitreya, the Four Siddhantas, Tsema)

  • Particular Mahayana teachings (e.g. Lamrim and Tenrim, Lodjong)

  • Buddhist tantra

  • Lineage specific teachings

  • History (e.g. of Buddhism, life stories)

  • Reference material (e.g. comparative works, scholarly writings)

  • Language material (Tibetan, Sanskrit, Pali, Hindi, etc.)

  • Buddhist art

  • Tibetan medicine and astrology

  • Magazines

  • Dedicated language sections (Tibetan, Sanskrit, and Chinese)

  • Non-Buddhist subjects (different philosophies, religions, science)

  • Further study material for KIBI students.

With the underlying aim of better preserving and rendering accessible the authentic Buddhadharma, a mandala (network) of all Dhagpo Kagyu libraries is being created. The initial step to this end was when in 2018, KIBI Library and Dhagpo Kagyu Ling Library (DKL) in France entered into a collaboration. This took form in the inclusion of KIBI Library's data into the DKL database, which has been meticulously developed and refined over many years and therefore is perfectly tailored to the specific requirements of a Tibetan Buddhist library. It effectively manages diverse materials, including traditional pejas and texts in Tibetan script. Furthermore, the database is enhanced with an elaborate search engine, making it a valuable asset for both dedicated researchers and individuals who simply enjoy browsing extensive collections.

The process of manually adding KIBI's holdings to this system is currently in progress. The English and Sanskrit sections are complete and fully accessible online. The recording of the Tibetan and Chinese sections is still ongoing. Please feel free to contact us with any inquiries.

To date, eight Kamtsang Kagyu libraries across Europe and Asia share this database, allowing researchers to locate texts worldwide with a single click. This achievement was made possible through the kindness and generosity of the DKL Team and Ven. Lama Jigme Rinpoche, whose unwavering encouragement was vital to the project.

Moving forward, we intend to further expand, enhance, and refine this library mandala.
