The KIBI Library is a research library designed for students, faculty, and researchers focused on Buddhist Studies, Tibetology, Tibetan and Sanskrit languages, and related subjects. It also serves Buddhist practitioners seeking to deepen their knowledge and experience. As an academic institution, we adhere to standard library regulations.
While registered members are welcome to borrow items under the conditions outlined below, guests are invited to utilize materials on-site within our reading room.
General Rules
Bags and Personal Items: All bags must be stored in the lockers provided near the library entrance.

Borrowing Limitations: Library books may not be taken outside of KIBI’s premises.

Non-Circulating Materials: Certain items are restricted to the reading room only. If needed, please ask our staff to scan relevant pages for you.
​
Book Preservation: To prevent damage to our collection, please avoid photocopying books. We offer convenient scanning services and provide master copies for many texts.
​
Noise and Phone Calls: Please maintain a quiet study environment. All phone calls must be taken outside the library area, and noise should be kept to a minimum.

Personal Belongings: KIBI is not responsible for the loss of or damage to personal belongings. Please ensure you keep track of your items.

Library Enrollment & Membership
To gain borrowing privileges, all users must first enroll as library members.

Students, Faculty, and Staff:
Members automatically gain membership status at the commencement of their studies or employment at KIBI. They are only required to place a refundable security deposit. This deposit is returned at the end of their stay (or earlier upon request), provided all borrowed items have been returned on time and in good condition.

Guests and Visitors:
Guests are welcome to browse our collection and use the reading room facilities. However, at this time, borrowing privileges are restricted to enrolled KIBI members only.
Loan Policy
Here are the guidelines for borrowing materials and managing overdue items:

Enrollment: Ensure you have completed the enrollment process as described in the membership section above.

Lending Periods:
Standard Period: The general lending period is two weeks.
Current Semester Materials: Books in the "Current Semester Material" section have a loan period of two days only.

Returns and Renewals: Items must be returned or renewed by their specified due date.
​
Overdue Procedure:
If an item is not returned by the due date, an email reminder will be sent.
A weekly overdue fee will be deducted from your security deposit until the item is returned (this fee begins two days after the notification email is sent).
Requesting Checked-Out Items: You may request an item that is currently on loan to another user. Please notify the librarian in charge to initiate a recall request.

Scanning: 5 Rs / page
Photocopying, printing: 5 Rs / page (one-sided)
7 Rs / page (two-sided)
